TransAccess is part of a new program being launched by Manpower – Project Ability - that focuses on matching candidates with disabilities to employer needs. On June 15th Manpower sent out the following press release.
Milwaukee (June 15, 2010) – Manpower announced it has launched a national program called Project Ability to transition people with disabilities into sustainable employment with leading employers nationwide. Initially launched in San Jose, Calif., the program works together in partnership with community organizations TransAccess, Project HIRED and the California State Department of Rehabilitation. Manpower’s Project Ability program has already enlisted several companies to commit to hiring individuals with disabilities, including Abbott and SVTC Technologies.

“Beyond the Headlines”, a public affair show interviewed Bob Zier, Mentoring Program Manager/Employment Services Specialist at TransAccess, about disability related topics. The interview will air on May 9th at 10 pm on channel 7.
Sarah Laugtug, an Employment Specialist for TransAccess, has been awarded the Outstanding Alumnus Award by the Disability Resource Center (DRC) at San Jose State University. She was selected to receive this award because of her accomplishments and contributions to progress for people with disabilities. Congratulations Sarah!
TransAccess has set up a computer center to enable clients to work on their resumes, conduct company information searches and other job related research. The center is open between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. To get more information call 408-278-2000.
John Cavano, our Occupational Therapist and Assistive Technology Practitioner, will be speaking at Silicon Valley Independent Living Center (SVILC) on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, from 3 to 4:00 p.m. He will be talking about our transition and access technology services, as well as demonstrating computer access equipment. The talk is open to the public and is free.

Project Ability is a program focused on matching candidates with disabilities to employer needs. TransAccess is partnering with Manpower to work with employers interested in hiring people with disabilities and to create recruitment strategies to identify and place these candidates.

Cupertino High School will be hosting a job fair on April 29th from 11;30 – 2:30. The event will provide a forum for employers to meet with prosepective employees. The job fair will be held at Cupertino High School, 10100 Finch Avenue in Cupertino.
