2002 MISSION FULFILLMENT REPORT January 1, 2002 - December 31, 2002 In 2002 TransAccess provided direct one-on-one services to 635 individuals with disabilities and indirect services to approximately 800 individuals with disabilities, their families and caregivers. Employer Involvement Meetings Have been held with the following companies or agencies to arrange services: Intel, SRI, IBM, Microsoft, The Hilton Hotel, The Red Lobster, Oracle, Agilent, FedEx, Hewlett-Packard, National Semiconductor, The San Jose Airport Authority, Santa Clara County Office of Education, Stanford University Archimedes Project, Bank of America, Santa Clara University and Santa Clara Valley Water District. Projects The TransAccess School-to-Career Program was the local organizer of the National Disability Mentoring Day of the American Association of Persons with Disabilities (AAPD). Over 60 employees from the various companies participating in National Disability Mentoring Day participated as volunteers to work with the students at their company sites. Sylvia organized a job fair for the Fremont Unified Special Education students. 75 students and 19 employers attended. STC and Internship Activities STC and Internship Program activities have occurred at the following employer sites: Microsoft, Agilent, FedEx, Intel, IBM, the Santa Clara Valley Water District, the Santa Clara County Office of Education, Hewlett-Packard, SRI, Stanford University, The San Jose Airport, Santa Clara University, Stanford University Archimedes Project, Manpower, Bank of America, Manpower, YMCA, Parents Helping Parents, Santa Clara Fire Department and The Pinnacle Presentations, Partnerships, Recruitment Sources, Memberships, Volunteers Total Volunteer Hours STC and Internship programs: 386 Meetings and Conferences Meetings with Disabled Student Services programs of Stanford University, the DSS programs of West Valley College and Evergreen College for student recruitment and presented at the Office of Education Transition Fair. Attendance at the Kitty Petty Institute Conference on learning disabilities, and the National High School High Tech meeting in Washington D.C. Memberships Staff continue to attend/participate as members of: BACED, West Valley College Advisory Board, NOVA Youth Advisory Committee, ILG, CONNECT, AAPD, the Office of Education Transition Fair, Joint Venture Education Forum, Palo Alto Vocational Education Advisory Meeting, De Anza College Special Education Advisory Meeting and the Joint Venture Education Forum. BAC The Business Advisory Committee has recruited five new business members. Presentations were made at the State Workability Conference, the Western Business and Information Technology Educators Conference in San Francisco and San Jose Unified School District Parent Empowerment Day. Staff interviewed and made recommendations to the California Governors Committee for Persons with Disabilities for the students from Santa Clara County who applied to the California Youth Leadership Forum. Labs Department of Rehabilitation Evaluations: 44 Department of Rehabilitation Training: 18 Private/Worker's Compensation Evaluations: 17 Training: 14 Scholarship Services: 18 Total Individuals Served: 111 Highlights Presentations employmentAccess2002 conference, the San Jose District of the Department of Rehabilitation Access technology Fair, Oakland DR District panel discussion on employment and accommodations for persons with disabilities, The Spinal Cord Injury Unit at Valley Medical Center, the TransAccess Business Advisory Committee meeting, the Interdistrict Transition Team meeting, Workability I, Monta Vista High School parent/teacher/student presentation, Marin A.T. fair, and CSUN International Conference on Technology for Persons with Disabilities, State Compensation Insurance Fund Disability Team, Oracle, Services for the Brain Injured, Project HIRED Staff, Special Education teachers from Fremont high school, Samuel Merritt College Occupational Therapy Program students and Workability, the MS Society, and the ALS Society. Other Training Staff provided training to Fremont Unified High School District, Tech Prep Teachers and coordinators and NOVA One Stop Employment Center access technology training for their teachers, students and service staff. All training was contracted by these entities and TransAccess invoiced for these services. Partnerships We met quarterly with the Department of Rehabilitation to review our services and understand referral trends, the Veteran's Administration Robotic Arm team to begin our phase of the research, and Stanford Augmentative Communication Services and Compumentor. Other Services Staff is still providing A.T. training services to Fremont Unified High School District teachers and students. The AT Labs consultation project with Hewlett-Packard was completed in March 2003. Memberships Staff continues as a member of the Assistive Technology Advisory Committee for the State of California, the Mission College Advisory Committee; TransAccess was accepted as a part of the Alliance for Technology Access (ATA) Network. General * In-Kind: Total in-kind contributions are $40,223. * Cash Donations: TransAccess received over $80,000 in cash donations. Grants Submitted and Funded (January-July 2002): Tech Prep ($5,000). We need to "bill" for the money as we perform the services of the grant. This will be partially this summer and mostly in the last quarter of 2002. Cisco Foundation ($15,000) for the Internship Program, Compaq ($20,000) for the A.T. Lab, Ed Dowd ($10,000) for the Tech Transitions Program, Cisco Foundation ($15,000) for the A.T. Labs, SBC Communications for the AT Labs ($15,000), AMD for the STC program ($2,000), Projects With Industry - PWI ($208,000 a year for three years), The Cross Roads 90 Foundation ($2,500), and the Health Trust ($20,000) for FY 2003. Memberships TransAccess continues to attend and participate at a leadership level the Professional Technical Diversity Network, Silicon Valley Partnership, and the Governor's Committee for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities, the Community Collaboration Team for Fremont Unified High School District and the California Business Leadership Network. Maria was appointed the Co-chair of the Affiliated Mayor's Committees for the California Governor's Committee for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities. Administrative TransAccess moved to 1590 the Alameda from 1 North First Street. Compaq donated much of the needed excess furniture, such as the conference room table, chairs, refrigerator, bookshelves, kitchen table, etc. Events and PR employmentAccess2002 employmentAccess2002 was held September 12 and 13 at the Microsoft Conference Center. There were over 200 attendees. The TransAccess Open House TransAccess had over 70 guests and was attended by representatives from corporate, DR, service provider and client groups.
