Employer Involvement * Staff provided Disability Etiquette workshops to Compaq Computer, the County Office of Education, San Jose State University graduate school program for Special Education Teachers and Nordstrom * STC and Internship activities occurred at the following sites: Affymetrix, Oracle, Office of Education, Micro Linear, Valley Water District, Santa Clara Fire Department, Microsoft, Fremont High School, Three Marketers Graphics, IBM, Intel, Stanford University and Project HIRED, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq Computer. * Staff organized a job fair for Fremont high school students with disabilities and obtained participation from the following employers: Safeway, Kinko's, Orchard Supply Hardware, Macy's, UPS, Interim, Sunnyvale Parks and Rec, Jamba Juice, City of Santa Clara Community Rec, Santa Clara Marriott, Le Boulanger, YMCA of Santa Clara County. Partnerships, Recruitment Sources, Memberships, Volunteers * Total Volunteer Hours for STC and Internship programs: 460 * The STC program was the Bay Area coordinator for the national job-shadowing day for students with disabilities. * The TransAccess STC/Internship Advisory Committee met four times in 2001. One of the meetings was combined with the California Business Leadership Network Meeting to discuss how businesses can get more involved with programs for youth with disabilities. Agilent hosted the meeting. * Bay Scholars Program/ Work Force S. V. Highlights * TransAccess continues its involvement with DMEC and Avanti. * TransAccess has formalized an agreement with Hire Potential, a national for profit placement agency for persons with disabilities to be a local provider of access technology and ergonomic assessments and training. We are currently working with of IBM through Hire Potential and may increase to Agilent and HP. We have also signed an agreement with Vocational Solutions to provide ergonomic and voice evaluations and training to Agilent. * Staff continues as a member of the Assistive Technology Advisory Committee for the State of California. * NetRefresh toured the Lab and is exploring other ideas for our partnership such as user testing of some of their sites. * Adobe toured the Lab and we are exploring ways for TransAccess to act as a consultant on product accessibility to Adobe. * Staff expanded services to the Oakland Department of Rehabilitation District. We have been increasing services to clients in that area and presented at their unit meetings. Staff met with the DR IT department because we are also providing direct services to many DR counselors. DR offices in Contra Costa County are interested in doing services with our lab. * Staff have rewritten the Dragon Naturally Speaking Training Guide * Staff attended the Rehabilitation Engineering Services Association conference * TransAccess was included with the grant to test the Provar robotic arm project for the Rehab Engineering team at the VA. We will be testing the arm in 2002 or 2003. * Staff presented at the CSUN conference and employment Access 2001. General * The TransAccess website was been launched. * Total YTD in-kind contributions are 74,437. * TransAccess received $29,837 in cash donations. * Grants submitted and funded: Abbott Labs (requested $5,000 and received $1,000), Cross Roads 90 Foundation (requested $5,000, received $1,500.00), Cisco ($10,000 requested and received), AMD (requested $5,000, received $3,000), MS Society Project ($10,000 requested and received), and Elfield Family Trust (4,237). * Meetings with Washington Mutual, Synopsis, Hewlett-Packard, and TMP Worldwide re: TransAccess services, support and contributions. * TransAccess continues to attend and participate at a leadership level the Professional Technical Diversity Network, Silicon Valley Partnership, Community Leadership San Jose, The Center for Excellence in Nonprofits Executive Director Roundtable and the Governor's Committee for the Employment of Persons with Disabilities. * TransAccess participated in the following events: Santa Clara County town meeting and exhibits, Silicon Valley Independent Living Center presentation and open house, Department of Rehabilitation Town Meeting and recognition, Project HIRED awards breakfast, The California Governor's Committee annual awards meeting and quarterly business meeting. * TransAccess staff provided free ADA seminars to downtown businesses for national disability Awareness month. * The lease for the space on the Alameda was signed for a move in March 2002. Events and PR * Employment Access 2001 was a huge success, with over 400 attendees. It was fully booked for speakers and exhibitors. We received $17,500 in sponsorships and $3,100 in in-kind contributions such as interpreters and printing costs. * The Stories of Success event went well with 75 attendees! * The Business Journal printed an article on employmentAccess 2001. * KNTV/KBWB, channel 11 featured employment Access 2001 on their community events show, This Week About the Bay. * An article in the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce was published in the December Chamber Advocate Newspaper. * Channel 7 news interviewed TransAccess for a news story on the Supreme Court Casey Martin decision. * Staff participated in a panel presentation at the Digital Connections conference in April regarding employment of persons with disabilities in the "digital age." 2001 Mission Fulfillment Report 1 TransAccess
