About Transaccess
History
TransAccess was founded in 1980 as Disabled Programmers, Inc., by Thomas Puorro, a former IBM executive whose son was paralyzed in a diving accident.
His desire was to provide training and competitive employment, not a sheltered workshop, to people with disabilities and, as a result, TransAccess trained people with disabilities for careers in computer programming. In 1996, TransAccess changed its focus to School-to-Career services for students with disabilities and Computer Access Technology assessments and training for individuals with disabilities and work related injuries. The agency was renamed TransAccess in 2000.
Mission
TransAccess provides persons with disabilities access to adaptive technology and career transition services so that they can achieve their desired education and employment, and improve their quality of life.
Services
TransAccess assists individuals 15 years of age or older who have all types of disabilities, physical (ALS, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke), sensory (low vision, blindness, limited hearing), learning, and work-related (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis, etc.).
